Helllooooo! Here is the June calendar with readings and dates:
Two things to note:
There's a new venue in the mix!! Selva in Bushwick. It's an art gallery + record shop by day and a wine bar by night. @selvanyc on ig if you want to check out the (incredible) vibes.
The meetings are all on different days of the week! I’ll make sure we have one weekend and one week night meeting every month bc I know Thursdays don’t work for everyone.
"The White Album" from The White Album by Joan Didion on Tues, June 11 at Verci
This is the short reading meeting for June. This essay is around 30 pages, but there is so much to discuss. The opening line is the iconic Joan Didion quote: "We tell ourselves stories in order to live." This is the most accessible reading bc it’s included in the Libby free preview <3
Good Material by Dolly Alderton on Weds, June 26 at Selva
From the author of Ghosts and Everything I Know About Love, this a new novel about friendships and romantic relationships. It’s getting a lot of great press rn. I know a couple of us have read it already and a bunch have it on their TBR. I just finished it and can't wait to talk about it with more people.
Sex and Rage by Eve Babitz on Sun, June 30 at Verci
This got by far the most votes on my ig story poll (btw follow @openbookclubnyc on ig if you're not already!!) I don't know if people here care about Jack Edwards, but it's on his list of books everyone should read in their 20s-30s. I agree with this take!
Ok, that’s it!! As always, lmk if you have questions or thoughts. Hope to see you at a meeting this month!
